It all started with a story about Max called Worth the Fight (the full story can be found on the page link) and now I've moved on to others. I do oneshots and fanfics and I love my readers.

Chapter 19 - Drink It If You Can

Alexis only had one thing on her mind: she had to keep Jay safe. So when she saw the knife, she did the only thing she could think of.

She lunged at him, her arms wrapping around his torso as she pulled him off of Jay.

“Alexis, no!”

They both fell to a heap on the ground, the man’s head slamming into the floor. He seemed dazed so Alexis tried to take the opportunity to get away from him. She got to her feet, grabbing Jay’s hand and pulling him up off of the ground.

They stumbled across the room, knocking over more chairs as they tried to reach safety. Eventually they made it behind the bar, the only place that offered any form of protection. They crouched down, both breathing heavily. Alexis reached for the phone again, her hands shaking as she tried to dial the number. Jay was watching her with wide eyes. He was trying his best to keep it together but a state of absolute panic was setting in, hindering his ability to think rationally.

Alexis screamed as she saw the man jump over the bar and grab Jay’s shoulders, hauling him to his feet. She covered her mouth with her hand and tears sprang into her eyes as he held Jay tight, the knife glinting against his throat.

“Put down the phone,” he growled at her. With tears streaming down her cheeks, Alexis slowly placed the phone down.

“Don’t hurt him, please,” she whispered, her voice catching. She let out a whimper as he pressed the knife tighter, causing a small drop of blood to form, the deep red color a harsh contrast to his pale skin.

“Let him go.”

All three of them turned their heads when they heard the voice call across the bar. Max stood in the doorway, fists clenched, eyes trained on their attacker.

“You’re not in a position to make any demands, in case you didn’t notice,” the stranger held the knife even tighter as he said this, causing more blood to drip down Jay’s neck, leaving dark red lines and causing a single drop to fall to the floor, staining the wood.

Crash!

Alexis let out a gasp as a bottle smashed over the man’s head. Jay was knocked out of the way as the man fell to the ground in a heap. She quickly crawled over to Jay, who was sprawled out on the floor.

She placed her hand on his neck, eager to stop the blood. It wasn’t a deep cut by any means, but she was so panicked that she needed to make sure he would be okay. She looked up to see Nathan standing there, the neck of the bottle in his hand and the rest scattered in pieces across the floor.

“Guys, come on. We need to get out of here,” Max yelled from across the room. Nathan stepped gingerly over the man and helped Alexis get Jay to his feet. Jay took Alexis’s hand in his and they hurriedly moved to get out from behind the bar and ran towards the door.

But they’d had their backs turned from the man for too long, assuming that he was knocked out.

“Watch out!” Max yelled, but it was too late.

Before Alexis could make her way to the end of the bar, an arm wrapped around her waist, yanking her backwards. She tried desperately to hold on to Jay’s hand but her grip wasn’t strong enough. She screamed and fought, scratching the attacker’s arms with her nails, but it was no use.

Suddenly, she could feel the cold steel of the knife pressed against her throat. She froze and it seemed like her heart stopped. She watched as Jay turned around, saw the look of pure horror on his face.

“Stop, or I’ll hurt her,” the man’s breath was hot on her cheek, just the sound of it making her stomach twist into knots. Max, Jay, and Nathan froze, not willing to risk any sudden movements. They hadn’t planned on this.

“Here’s what I need you boys to do. I need you to leave. If you don’t get out of here right now, if you call the cops, if you try to get help, I’ll kill her.” As he said those last three words, his grip around her waist tightened and she felt the knife break her delicate skin.

Her eyes pleaded with Jay, trying her best to tell him “Please, don’t leave me.”

There was nothing anyone could do. They were stuck, with a very delicate situation on their hands. One false move and Alexis would be dead. But they couldn’t leave her there, they knew exactly what would happen. So Jay did the only thing he could think of.

“Let her go,” he said, his hands shaking. “It’s me who you want to hurt. I’m her boyfriend, I’m the one who’s keeping her away from you.”

“Jay…” Alexis whispered. But the man held the knife tighter, causing her to whimper in pain.

“Just, please. Let her go for now. Once I’m gone, you can have her. She’ll have no one to protect her.”

Jay knew that the man was crazy, that he was delusional. And Jay was the only thing standing in the way of making the man’s fantasy real.

The man looked Jay up and down, as if sizing him up. He then gave a sickening grin before throwing Alexis to the side.

She fell to the ground in a heap, slamming the side of her head on the counter. With blurry vision, she watched in horror as her nightmare turned into reality, with an even more terrifying twist.

Jay stood his ground, fists clenched, as the man came towards him. Max hopped over the bar in an effort to come between them. The man grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and slammed a fist into his face. He then picked up a full bottle off of the counter and, as they all stared in horror, smashed it over his head.

Max fell to the floor, eyes closed, barely moving. Nathan leaped over the bar to help him, crouching down next to him and pulling him into a sitting position. He looked over at Alexis and whispered “Run” but she shook her head. She wasn’t going anywhere. She had to stop this.

But there was nothing she could do to help as she watched what happened next.

She tried to scream, tried to cry out, but no sound would leave her mouth. Her voice was lost, tears streaming down her face.

Jay swung a fist but it was caught in mid-air. Before he could make another move, the man’s hand was wrapped around his throat. He pushed Jay against a wall and grinned as Jay fought to breathe.

Though she was still slightly dazed, Alexis managed to comprehend what was about to happen.

A bloodcurdling scream finally left her mouth as Jay’s face contorted in pain.

The man let go of his throat as Jay sank to the ground, the knife sticking out of abdomen, a large spot of blood already starting to form.
